Before Your First Filing

Gather your documents and account details, and learn where to find each part of the filing workspace.

Gather the information that applies to your filing:

  • The county and exact court or clerk's office, including a justice court's precinct and place where applicable.
  • Whether this starts a new case, belongs to an existing case, or is electronic service only.
  • The existing cause number, or the category and type for a new case.
  • The filing code that describes the document being submitted.
  • Final document files, with signatures and required exhibits already prepared.
  • The names and roles of any parties you need to add.
  • The filing attorney, if you are filing through a firm account.
  • The electronic service contacts and any separate copy recipients.
  • An eligible payment account and the quantities for any court services you request.

Verify the connected filer and environment before starting. Keep an original copy of every document on your device or in your own document system; a draft in Referlex is not a document backup.

The filing wizard has four stages: Matter & Filing, Documents, People & Delivery, and Review & File. Required-item messages identify what still needs attention. Selecting an incomplete action can take you to the missing field; it does not send a partially completed filing.

On a wide screen, the Filings page shows filters, a list, and the selected record together. On a smaller screen, opening a filing takes you to its record. The same filing information is available through Full Record when that action is shown.
