Governor Greg Abbott has appointed Shawn Nicole Thierry as judge of the 515th District Court in Harris County. The appointment was announced August 25, 2026 and takes effect September 1, 2026, for a term set to expire December 31, 2028.
The 515th District Court is one of the district courts the Legislature created effective September 1, 2026, so Thierry is its first judge.
About the judge
Shawn Nicole Thierry of Houston served as executive director of policy in the Office of General Counsel at Texas Southern University and is a former state representative for Texas House District 146, with nearly three decades of legal experience. She earned her law degree at Thurgood Marshall School of Law and was appointed to the Texas Juvenile Justice Board in 2025.
