# Parties and Representation

## Add Parties

For a new case, add the party roles required by the selected case type. Choose the party type, then whether the party is a person or a business/organization. Enter a person's first and last name or the organization's legal name, and select **Add Party**. Repeat for each required party and review the resulting list.

The role describes the party's position in the case; the person/organization selection describes what kind of entity it is. Do not enter a company as a person's first and last name. The wizard identifies required party types; a complete form does not establish that you have named every legally necessary party.

For an indexed existing case, do not re-enter parties already on the court's record. Use **This Filing Adds a Party to the Case** only when the filing actually adds someone. Non-indexed existing cases require more case information because the EFM does not already have that record.

## Select Representation

A firm filer selects the **Filing Attorney** from the firm's attorney records. Check the name and bar number. The person signed in and the attorney named on the filing can be different people; a filer account is not an attorney record.

For an individual filer, the Representation section identifies the filing as self-represented. Check that this matches the intended filing. If the identity or available representation does not match your situation, resolve the account setup before submitting.
